After carrying out a review, Lidl confirmed in late March that it would re-open a store on Fortunestown Lane – and implement planning permission previously granted for a larger store on site.

In a statement released by the German discount giant today, the new and improved store will offer an enhanced shopping experience for customers, with floor space increasing from 997msq to 1,698msq.

A wide range of strategies to reduce environmental impact are also incorporated into the design of the new store, which Lidl has confirmed will officially open on August 30.

According to statement by Lidl Ireland: “The store will be built to the ISO50001energy efficiency standard and incorporate features such as heat recovery, LED lighting, sensor controlled exterior sun blinds to reduce unwanted heat from the sun, and high insulation external cladding.

“Floor space in the store has increased from 997msq to 1698msq and customer car parking facilities have almost doubled and will include a number of electric vehicle charging points.”

Lidl Ireland added: “The store team that were redeployed to other stores in the area following the incident in March look forward to returning to the new store in August and welcoming back valued customers in the local community who have been extremely supportive over the last few months.”
