Litter cases go to court

UP TO 14 litter pollution cases in the South Dublin County Council area from September to December 2018, are listed for court hearings.

According to figures released by SDCC, up to 21 litter pollution cases were referred for prosecution during the period September-December 2018.

Cases under the Litter Pollution and Waste Management Acts can also include incidents of dog fouling.

As to enforcement, up to 141 fixed payment notices were issued in the same period – with 93 for illegal dumping, 44 for unauthorised signs and four for failing to keep a public place litter-free.

SDCC reported a total of 598 litter fines in 2018 – up slightly from 556 in 2017.

There were 62 prosecutions for litter incidents in 2018, and 66 during 2017.
