WHEN one thinks of Moore Street in the heart of Dublin’s city centre, one’s mind immediately turns to the market, which has been a colourful and iconic presence in the city since the 18th century, writes Ken Doyle.
What is perhaps less well known is the crucial role Moore Street played in Irish history, and how it was once a bloody battleground where in 1916, up to 350 men and women of the GPO Garrison fought against British forces.
