Local Special Olympians honoured
LEINSTER Badminton recently presented Gary Bathe, Trevor Kivlehan, Nicholas Goody and Keith Bracken with certificates recognising their achievements in the Special Olympics All-Ireland Games that were held in June.
Members of the Flying Trojans Special Olympics Badminton Club based at Whitehall Road, Terenure, they all turned in superb performances at this year’s event.

Indeed, Gary Bathe won a gold in singles while baging two fourth-place ribbons for badminton doubles while Trevor Kivlehan finished fifth in singles and scooped bronze in doubles.
Keith Bracken emerged with two bronze medals to his name after a great showing in mixed doubles and singles events.
Elsewhere, the bowling section of the Ireland Games were held in the Leisureplex in Blanchardstown where Nicholas Goody picked up two gold medals.
The athletes trained for the last few years to progress from Area to Regional Games and then on to the National stage embodying their motto “let me win, but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt!”.
The presentation to these four athletes was held before the start of the Premier League which is an event held by Leinster Badminton once a month.
The series sees top players in Ireland compete on a platform that is open to the public. There is no charge for attending this event which, on this occasion, was attended by the Leinster President and the Regional Director for Special Olympics, League Players, Coaches and Volunteers and members of Flying Trojans.

The club meets every Friday from 6.15pm until 7pm in the Terenure Badminton Centre on Whitehall Road.
