Loreto retain EYHL title for third year running
LORETO Hockey Club successfully retain the EYHL 1 division for a third consecutive season following a 3-0 victory against Queen’s University last weekend.
The tie would be decided with goals for Christina Hamill, Anna Horan and Siofra O’Brien to secure another league title win for the Leinster club.
The result makes them the most successful club since the league’s inception back in 2009.
Previously winners of the Active South Dublin Team of the Year award for their first league title win, Loreto won the league this season after battling off a brief wave of resistance from Railway Union.
The weekend saw two matches played across the EYHL with Loreto actually losing Saturday’s game with a shock defeat to Pembroke Wanderers.
They were able to get the job done on Sunday however with the 3-0 victory securing their title win. They finished on 39 points with Railway Union on 31.
The weekend was also successful for Three Rock Rovers who despite drawing to Avoca on Saturday secured a bonus point there and then managed a huge 8-3 victory over Cookstown on Sunday to put themselves in third place in the table.
