Luas services to Tallaght and Saggart not expected to return until tomorrow
There will be no Luas red line services to Tallaght or Saggart from the Red Cow for the rest of today due to damage caused to overhead power lines this morning.
A number of units from Dublin Fire Brigade and Luas technicians attended the scene shortly after 11am when a truck caused the damage – leaving the power lines hanging loosely.
Traffic in the area was very heavy due to diversions, and Luas operators have this afternoon confirmed the line will most likely remain closed for the rest of the day.
In a statement they said: “Please be advised there is no service between Red Cow, Tallaght and Saggart as a truck crashed into the overhead cables, leaving this section of the line with no power.
“NB: Services between Red Cow and Saggart/Tallaght are not expected to return before end of schedule this evening at 00.30am.
“Please allow extra time to travel especially as we come into peak traffic this evening. We hope that a full service will be restored by first service tomorrow morning at 5.30am.
“Luas tickets are valid on Dublin Bus and an alternative bus service will be serving all stops between Red Cow and Saggart/Tallaght. A valid Luas ticket is required to use these services.
“Please accept our apologies for any and all inconvenience caused to you.”
