Lucan athletes in Masterful show

LUCAN Harriers athletes really made their presence felt at the National Indoor Masters Championships in Athlone last Saturday.

Niamh Fitzgerald twice went top of the podium after victories in both the W40 400m in a time of 1.04.03 and W40 800m (2.21.28).

Carol Kearney won bronze in the W50 200m in a time of 30.53 before returning to the podium to receive silver after her superb run in the W50 400m.

There was a third place finish for Annette Durkan in the W40 60m in a time of 8.72, and both she and Kearney will now represent Ireland at the European Indoor Masters Champion-ships in Madrid later this month.

In men’s competition Eoin Fitzgerald came home third in the M45 1500m, clocking 4.36.21 while there were sixth place finishes for Hugh Walsh in both the M50 60m and 200m.

Colin O’Gara finished seventh in the M50 800m final with Derek Lynch eighth in the M40 equivalent.

Elsewhere in the National Duathlon Championships in Donegal, Lucan’s Will Byrne finished 20th overall and, in the process, scooped the National O45 title.
