Lucan outpace dogged Davis

LUCAN Sarsfields Under 15 hurlers pulled away from Thomas Davis in the second half of their Division Five encounter to secure a valuable 2-14 to 2-7 victory at the 12th Lock on Tuesday evening.

Down by a point at the half-time break, the homeside battle back with the aid of a goal and two points by Robert Hazley to bag the points that helps keep them in touch with the top two in the group, Ballyboden and Bray.

Stuart Barritt puts in a challenge on Lucan's Cian Ryan

Davis made a bright start with Oisin Horan striking over the bar and Sam Nicholas finding the back of the net.

Still Lucan remained in touch thanks in no small part to a goal from Cian Ryan and a fine individual point from James Ivory.

Dean Boylan and Hazley also pointed in the first half for Sarsfields with the former continuing on to take his personal tally to six after the half-time interval.

The contribution of Hazley and Eoin Fitzpatrick helped Lucan widen the gap and, while Scott McKeown’s goal did help Davis back into it, a couple of late points from Noah O’Kelly went some way to keeping the hosts out of reach.

Danny McCarthy put in a good shift at left half-back for Lucan who also saw Jack Doyle and Joey McSweeney give a good account of themselves after stepping up from the Under 14s for the first time.

Goalkeeper Anthony O’Toole was superb for Davis, pulling off quality saves in the first half while full back Conor Fulham did well even after being moved from full-back out to the middle where Stewart Barritt also made his presence felt.
