Lucan swimming pool pause now election is over
By Brendan Grehan
LUCAN’S WAIT for a swimming pool could be even longer than expected.
This is following the Lucan Area Committee meeting of South Dublin Council where Councillor Danny O’Brien (SF) tabled a question “asking the Chief Executive when he expects to hear if SDCC has been successful in getting the grant from the government towards the Lucan swimming pool?”
The council replied that the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport, by letter dated January 20, 2016, confirmed that the Local Authority Swimming Pool Programme had reopened.
The council added: “ Expressions of interest were sought from local authorities for grant aid in respect of a single project up to a maximum of €3.8 million.
“The council submitted a detailed application in respect of a proposal for a swimming pool for Lucan seeking €3.8m to assist in its construction. The deadline for submissions was Febuary 5 last and a favourable response is now awaited.”
Cllr O’Brien told The Echo that SDCC don’t know if they will get the grant.
He said: “Basically the council don’t know if they will get the grant. With the election just over, everything is now on hiatus. The response will be noted in the minutes. Basically they told us that they have applied for the grant and they don’t know whether they will get it or not.”
