REPRESENTING Dublin at the Rose of Tralee International Festival this week was a “magical experience” for Dublin Rose Tanya Feighery.

Kilnamanagh woman Tanya (26) competed in the glittering event, –which saw Waterford Rose Kirsten Mate Maher ultimately take the Rose of Tralee title – gave a live interview and performed ‘Riptide’ on the ukulele during the live broadcast of the contest on RTÉ on Monday night.

The young woman is looking forward to taking up a new role as a PE and science teacher in Kingswood Community College next week, and taking on the duties of Dublin Rose for the coming year.

Reflecting on her time at the festival, Tanya told The Echo: “It was phenomenal. We were being paraded around on floats – we felt like Disney princesses sitting on those floats.

“It was out of this world. I think the only word that could sum up the experience is ‘magic’.”

Tanya confidently took to the stage on Monday night in front of an audience of people watching both in the festival dome and on their TVs at home.

When asked if she was nervous about her star turn, Tanya said: “I’ve been on stage since I was young, but anytime I go on stage it’s a different experience.

“Excitement was high, but it was only when I got off the stage that I realised I wanted to go back on again!”

Looking to the days ahead, Tanya said: “I’m looking forward to getting a good sleep, it feels like I’ve been awake for the past two days.”
