Mammies know best in minor GAA Star awards!

By William O'Connor

As part of the inaugural Electric Ireland Minor GAA Star Awards, Electric Ireland linked up with All Star legends and minor ambassadors Oisín McConville and Dónal Óg Cusack, as well as current minor players Michael Conroy of Roscommon and Kevin Desmond from Ballyboden St Enda’s, and their Mammies to see just how well they know each other.

The GAA Mammies and sons are asked questions about each other much like the classic ‘Mr & Mrs’ game and some of the resulting moments are golden.

From fake-tan mishaps to pitch-invading parents, it’s clear that while the Mammies have embarrassed the boys at times (and during the interview), they were integral in helping them achieve all they have so far. It’s obvious that GAA Mammies are a special bunch.

Dónal Óg Cusack fully enjoyed the experience remarking: “It was great fun, although I fully stand by all my fashion choices. It was nice to remind her how much I appreciate all she’s done.

“Look at the Minors for example – there are Mammies all over the country driving these lads to training, doing their washing and generally encouraging them. They’re a huge part of enabling the next generation of stars to reach their potential.”

McConville and Cusack are calling for the public to vote on the Electric Ireland Facebook page for their minor players of the week ahead of the Electric Ireland Minor GAA Star Awards.

The Awards, which will take place in Croke Park on October 7, will honour the best minor player in each position to complete the Electric Ireland GAA Minor Hurling and Football Teams of the year as well as selecting an overall Player of the Year for Football and Hurling.
