Man (23) charged with arson of house is released on bail

A MAN charged with the arson of a house in Heatherview Lawns in Tallaght last Friday morning has been granted bail by the High Court.

Last Friday, (July 27) at 6.25am, Gardai and emergency services attended the scene of a house fire in Heatherview Lawns.

Four pumps from Tallaght and Dolphin’s Barn fire stations attended the scene along with an emergency tender, ambulance and two district officers and a senior officer from Dublin Fire Brigade.

The Echo understands that people were in the house at the time of the blaze, but escaped without injuries.

A man from Tallaght, Brian Óg McKee, was arrested and was detained in Tallaght Garda Station.

Óg McKee, aged 23, with an address at St Aonghus Park, Tallaght is charged with committing arson by damaging by fire without lawful excuse a house at Heatherview Lawns, Aylesbury, Tallaght, on July 27, 2018, contrary to Section 2 of the Criminal Damage Act, 1991.

On Saturday morning (July 28), Óg McKee appeared in custody before Judge Gerard Jones in Court 2 of the CCJ.

Óg McKee was represented by his counsel, John Griffin BL, who was instructed by Padraig O’Donovan solicitors.

Garda Josh Doran gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution. Garda Doran objected to bail.

Judge Jones remanded Óg McKee in custody to appear before Court 1 in the CCJ on Tuesday, July 31.

On Monday, July 30, Mr O’Donovan brought habeas corpus proceedings before the High Court and Óg McKee was granted bail.

On Tuesday morning, Óg McKee appeared in custody before Judge John Cheatle in Court 1 in the CCJ.

Garda Doran asked for a remand for DPP directions. Mr Griffin told Judge Cheatle that his client had been granted bail by the High Court.

Judge Cheatle remanded Óg McKee in custody with consent to High Court bail to October 23 next for DPP directions. Óg McKee later took up his bail.
