Man (30s) dies following suspected assault over weekend

GARDAI are appealing for witnesses following a fatal assault that is understood to have occurred sometime between Saturday and the early hours of Sunday morning.

According to a Garda appeal issued, gardai were alerted by National Ambulance Service personnel to reports of a male (30s) with serious injuries at an apartment in Lucan at around 3am on Sunday.

Gardai said: “The man was taken to Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown for treatment of his injuries.

“He passed away yesterday evening, Sunday 7th January 2024 at approximately 6.30pm.

“The services of the Office of the State Pathologist have been requested by investigating gardai and a post-mortem is expected to take place today, Monday 8th January 2024.”

An incident room has been established at Lucan Garda Station, with the investigation being led by a Senior Investigating Officer.

Gardai are now appealing to the public for information in relation to this incident.

Any road users who were travelling in the vicinity of Allenton, Tallaght, and Shackleton, Lucan, at this time and who may have camera footage (including dash cam) is asked to make this available.
