Man (40s) arrested in relation to fatal stabbing of Graham McKeever in Tallaght
Gardai in Tallaght have tonight arrested a man (40s) in relation to the fatal stabbing of Graham McKeever (32) in the Deerpark estate in the early hours of yesterday morning.
It is believed Mr McKeever was stabbed multiple times in the chest during the incident that unfolded at around 4:30am.
In a statement released by gardai this evening a spokesperson said: “Gardai have arrested a man, early 40s, in connection with a fatal stabbing that occurred at Deerpark Avenue, Tallaght yesterday morning, Saturday 18th February, 2017.
“The man was arrested by Gardai attached to the Tallaght District Detective Unit this evening, Sunday 19thFebruary 2017.
“He is currently detained at Tallaght Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.”
It is believed Mr McKeever was at the dwelling with a woman when another man arrived some time after 4am.
Shouting could be heard coming from the apartment, and Mr McKeever was stabbed a number of times in the chest.
Residents in the area have been left shocked, but many say the Deerpark estate has been in decline over the past 12 months.
One resident, who did not wish to be named, told Echo.ie that the level of crime in the estate has been on the increase for some time.
They said: “We’ve been living here for a few years now and you can see the difference in the estate in the last while, it seems every night we have garda up here for some reason.
“The kids seem to think it’s normal, but it’s not, they shouldn’t be seeing this sort of thing and thinking it’s normal.”
