Man (50s) dies in Clondalkin after falling into canal overnight

A man has died overnight after he fell into the Grand Canal in Clondalkin.

Gardai and other emergency services were called to the scene at the Ninth Lock at 3am this morning.

The local man, believed to be in his 50s, was removed from the canal and transported to Tallaght Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

In a statement released to Echo.ie this afternoon a spokesperson said: “Gardai in Ronanstown are investigating the sudden death of a man 50s.

“At approximately 3am Gardai in Clondalkin and emergency services were called to an incident at the Ninth Lock, Clondalkin. 

“A local man in his 50s was taken from the canal. He was removed by ambulance to Tallaght Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

“The coroner has been notified and a post-mortem will be carried out.”

It is believed the incident is being treated as a tragic accident.
