Judge David McHugh adjourned the case at Blanchardstown District Court for the directions of the DPP to be given.

Mr Fox, aged 36, with an address at Beechwood Lawn, Killiney, is charged with assault causing harm to the woman on April 7, 2019.

Judge McHugh asked for an outline of what was alleged.

Sergeant Walter Sweeney said the prosecution maintained the accused headbutted the alleged victim on the forehead, causing her to lose consciousness.

He said the DPP’s directions were outstanding.

Judge McHugh said he would consider the issue of jurisdiction when directions were given.

He said he also wanted to see a medical report on the alleged victim’s injuries.

Defence barrister Jennifer Jackson applied for free legal aid, submitting a statement of the accused’s financial means and saying Mr Fox was on jobseekers’ allowance.

The judge granted legal aid and remanded the accused on continuing bail in his absence to February 2, 2021.
