Man charged following incident at Old Bawn in which windows were randomly smashed in by an individual
A MAN has been charged following a “frightening” incident of criminal damage to a property, which is understood to have been random, in Tallaght.
A man in his 30s was arrested following an incident of criminal damage which occurred at a residence in Old Bawn, Tallaght.
“Gardaí are investigating an incident of criminal damage that occurred at a residence in Old Bawn, Tallaght, Dublin 24 at approximately 4.30pm on Wednesday, 9th August 2023,” a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána told The Echo.
“A male in his 30s was arrested following a patrol of the area by Gardaí and detained at a Garda Station in Dublin under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
“He was charged and appeared before CCJ Court no. 3 on Thursday morning, 10th August 2023.
“As this matter is now before the courts, An Garda Síochána will not be commenting further at this time.”
The Echo understands that the property in Old Bawn had its windows randomly smashed by the individual.
A week after the incident, Cllr Cathal King (SF) encouraged community leaders to work with the relevant authorities to safeguard community spaces.
“It is worrying, the community, the Guards and even the council need to work together to reduce the number of these sorts of incidents and get the rule of law back into our community,” Cllr King said to The Echo.
“Elderly residents shouldn’t have to deal with this, it’s frightening for the couple in their house when it’s just getting smashed up in the middle of the day.
“Now they’ve to think about the costs of getting their property fixed and all sorts – this sort of thing shouldn’t be happening. My thoughts are with that couple and with the family.”
Investigations into the incident are still ongoing, according to the spokesperson from An Garda Síochána.
