Man charged with dangerous driving and driving a stolen car in Newcastle

A MAN accused of dangerous driving and driving a stolen car in Newcastle has also been charged with two counts of attempting to impede a prosecution.

Garda Diarmaid Lalor told Judge David McHugh in Blanchardstown District Court that the DPP had directed trial on indictment in Gary Prentice’s case.

Prentice, aged 29, with an address at Rossfield Drive, Tallaght, is charged with driving a stolen car, dangerous driving, no insurance and no driving licence at Main Street, Newcastle, on January 24, 2018.

He was also charged with two counts of attempting to impede a prosecution at an address at Beaufort Drive, Maynooth, County Kildare, on January 24, 2018.

He was also charged with possession of a crowbar, a hammer, a false registration plate, gloves and an axe for use in theft at Main Street, Newcastle, also on January 24 last.

Garda Lalor told Judge McHugh that he arrested Prentice in the precincts of Blanchardstown Court that morning.

He said Prentice was later charged and made no reply to each charge.

Prentice was represented  by his solicitor, Emer O’Sullivan.

Judge McHugh remanded Prentice on continuing bail to a date in June for service of his book of evidence.
