Man did not know he needed licence to drive an e-scooter
A MAN who did not know he needed a licence to drive an e-scooter was fined at Tallaght District Court.
Haitham Nofal (30), with an address of Block 5, Tallaght Cross West, appeared before court facing road traffic charges.
The court heard that gardai were on patrol on June 29, 2025, at Belgard Square South, Tallaght, and observed the defendant on an EBike Kakirin G2 travelling at “excessive speed past a patrol car.”
The driver of the scooter Mr Nofal was stopped and gardai explained to him that bikes that size require a licence which Nofal failed to produce.
Defence solicitor Ethan Foley said his client used the bike to get to and from work and wasn’t aware that he was required to have a licence for an electrified bike as he “sees them all over Dublin.”
Mr Foley said his client understands the requirements now and as a working man does not plan on coming before the courts again.
Judge Miriam Walsh imposed an €800 fine on Mr Nofa.
