Judge David McHugh noted that the pornography found on Kevin Murphy’s computer included 52 videos, 148 images of child abuse and 805 images of child nudity.

Murphy appeared on bail before Judge McHugh in Blanchardstown District Court.

Murphy, aged 26, with an address at Cherrywood Park, Clondalkin, is charged with possessing child pornography and digital images and videos depicting children involved in various sex acts contrary to Section 6 (1) of the Child trafficking and pornography Act, 1998, at the above address on June 29, 2012.

The DPP had previously directed summary disposal only on a plea of guilty in Murphy’s case.

Murphy’s solicitor, Terry Hanahoe, told Judge McHugh that his client was pleading guilty.

Judge McHugh asked what was alleged.

A Garda told the court that the gardai carried out a search of Murphy’s home with a warrant.

He said Murphy later presented himself to Clondalkin garda station and made “full and frank admisssions”.

He said that a computer was then taken from Murphy’s home and examined by gardai.

The computer was found to contain videos and images.

A file was later sent to the DPP and Murphy was charged.

Judge McHugh accepted jurisdiction.

The Garda said that Murphy had no previous convictions.

Judge McHugh noted that the material involved 52 videos, 148 images of child abuse and 805 images of child nudity.

Judge McHugh remanded Murphy on continuing bail to a date in April for a probation report and for sentencing.
