Martin ‘Wrecking Ball’ Quinn set to turn pro

FORMER Dublin Novices Champion Martin ‘Wrecking Ball’ Quinn is the latest boxer to quit the amateur ranks and try his hand on the professional circuit.

The former Crumlin Boxing Club fighter will compete at the Celtic Clash 3 event at the National Stadium on September 9.

Given his prowess in the ring you’d never think he only took up the sport in his mid-20s, as most people at his level would have started off at a very young age.

The fighter who trains at the All Saint Gym in Kimmage explained “I’m only boxing about four years now. I won the Dublin Novices title, and got to the finals in an awful lot of things as well, but things didn’t go my way.”

Quinn was christened the “Wrecking Ball of Crumlin” due to his destructive approach in the ring, where he is renowned for his big hands, packing quite a punch within those eight-ounce gloves.

The 67kg fighter has his sights clearly set on victory as he prepares to enter the ring on September 9, saying: “My goal is an Irish title.”

“I know for a fact I will get an Irish title,” he declared confidently.

Also fighting on the night will be Kilnamanagh’s Liam Gaynor, in the biggest one-night pro boxing event to have been staged in this country.
