McGrath late goal see Davis juniors into semis
THOMAS Davis junior hurlers left it very late in their Junior ‘C’ Championship quarter final clash with Fingallians as Jordy McGrath scored a goal in the last puck of the game to seal the victory 4-9 to 2-14.
Both teams were very evenly matched as Dean Gibbons (1-6) free taking proved vital throughout for Davis.
Jordy McGrath (2-1) pounced early on to get his first goal to give Thomas Davis an early lead followed by some good work by Fionn Murray (0-1) which led to scores.
Davis’ went in at the break with a two-point lead 1-7 to 0-8 and in the second half substitute Zak Moradi made an impact straight away as he hit 1-2 from play while the Davis defence led by Jaques Dalton, John Sheridan and Dillon Joyce put in good performances on the day.
With both teams tied going into injury time, Fingallians got a goal from a long range free to go two points ahead, however in the last play of the game Jordy McGrath got on the end of a ball from Scott McKeown to bury the ball into the Fingallians net to seal a one point victory.
Thomas Davis will now play Wild Geese in the semi-final on October 15 at Kiltipper Road.
Meanwhile Thomas Davis senior hurlers exited the Senior Two Championship on Saturday as Craobh Chiaran’s ran out 2-17 to 1-16 winners.
Played on a wet and windy day in Parnell Park, Chiaran’s senior one experience proved vital as they took control midway through the second half to see out the game by four points.
