Members of activity group raise €500 for CASA
MEMBERS of a local social activity group raised almost €500 for CASA (Caring and Sharing Association) as a result of a 5km sponsored walk around Dodder Valley Park recently.
The members of CASA, Tallaght residents Jennifer and Martin, embarked on the walk with the support of CASA volunteer Mary.
The idea for the walk, which looped from Firhouse to Old Bawn and back, came from Martin as he wanted to be active and support the organisation which has helped him so much.
Úna Sheahan, a local group leader for CASA Harold’s Cross, told The Echo: “The reason Martin decided on the walk was because the staff were looking for a project for him.
“They wanted him to go out and be motivated, and he said he wanted to do a walk for CASA.”
His friend and fellow CASA member Jennifer also decided to take part, and the duo walked regularly and followed a healthy diet in the lead-up to the 5km walk.
They enjoyed the experience, and when they crossed the finish line in Firhouse they were greeted by friends from CASA and were presented with medals and certificates.
Úna added: “They were both absolutely thrilled and delighted, it was a great achievement.
“The group enjoyed a well-deserved rest, and relaxed [while] enjoying a picnic of some tasty snacks and a few healthy treats.
“Jennifer is looking forward to doing some walking in Waterford and Wicklow during the summer.
“Martin is determined to keep up the training and stay fit by doing lots of walking too.
“Mary too will continue with a busy schedule of varied activities.”
The walk was such a success that CASA members are considering holding it again next year.
