Members of Jacob’s Biscuits Social Club invited to final clubhouse meeting
By Aideen O'Flaherty
MEMBERS of the Jacob’s Biscuits Social Club are invited to attend the group’s final annual general meeting on Sunday, August 20 at 11am in the club.
There has been speculation about the club after Amazon bought the site of the former Jacob’s Biscuits factory, where the club is located.
The Echo understands that the social club building is owned by the lifetime members of the group, but they do not own the land that the building is located on.
Last year talks were held between the social club and Amazon, after Amazon reached out to the group via The Echo.
The club first opened in 1980, when up to 230 lifetime members bought lifetime memberships.
There are also a further 100 members who pay a membership fee each year to continue the upkeep of the club.
Amazon was given planning permission to build a data centre on the site last year.
