Molly O’Toole memorial game raises €1k for Lacey Robinson
By Brendan Grehan
OVER €1,000 was raised in the Molly O’Toole Memorial Cup when Lucan United defeated Shamrock Rovers in a pre-season friendly.
It was the second annual meeting of the two clubs for the Molly O’Toole Memorial Cup on Saturday.
Lucan United have held the event in memory of Molly who played with the club’s girls youth teams before passing away in 2015 following a short illness when in fourth class.
The game was played at Celbridge Astro Park to a good crowd and €1,070 was raised. This will go towards the care of five-year-old Lacey Robinson from Clondalkin who is currently in Great Ormond Street Hospital awaiting a transplant.
Keith Hyland, Lucan United’s Chairman told The Echo that he was very pleased with the turnout.
He said; “I think the turnout was higher because we held the game in the morning so that was great to see. It was also great to beat Shamrock Rovers. All the proceeds from the game will go to assist Lacey Robinson.”
It was a serious test for Lucan United but they came out flying and recorded a memorable win which also served as a useful training exercise for both clubs with a final score of 1-0 to Lucan. The LSL Senior Sunday 1A side are flying high in the league this season and long may it continue.
