A MOTHER allegedly crashed her car while drinking a can of alcohol with her two-year-old child sitting in the back of the car, Blanchardstown District Court has heard.

The woman, aged 34, who has an address in the North Inner City, is charged with being drunk-in-charge of a vehicle and with being drunk-in-charge of a child contrary to Section 9 of the Summary Jurisdiction Act, 1908, at Nangor Road, Clondalkin on June 24, 2018.

Garda Ciaran Murray told Judge McHugh that the DPP had directed summary disposal.

He said it will be alleged that at 3.30pm he observed a Seat Leon that was crashed on the Nangor Road. Garda Murray said the female driver was slumped over the steering wheel and was holding an open can of alcohol.

Garda Murray said there was a two-year-old child sitting in the back of the car. He added that the woman was taken to Clondalkin Garda Station where it will be alleged that she supplied a blood sample to a doctor.

The sample allegedly read 219mg alcohol over 100ml blood.

Judge McHugh asked what was the state of the child.

The Garda said the child was highly distressed.

Judge David McHugh refused jurisdiction in the woman’s case.

The woman’s solicitor, Yvonne Buckley, asked the judge to grant legal aid. She said her client earns €500 per week. Judge McHugh said he would make a decision on the next date.

He remanded the woman on continuing bail to a date in October for service of her book of evidence.
