Mother who has not been sending kids to school has case adjourned

A MOTHER who has not been sending two of her children to school had her case further adjourned for a progress report by Tallaght Court, reports Brendan Grehan.
The woman’s solicitor, Michael Hennessy, had told Judge Patricia McNamara that his client’s husband had been shot dead in front of her.
The 35-year-old, who has an address in Tallaght had pleaded guilty to two counts of failing to comply with a school attendance notice on June 30, 2016, ensuring the attendance of two of her children at a school in Tallaght.
The case was before Judge McNamara for progress report.
The court had heard in the 2015-16 educational year the girl (13) had missed 62 out of 181 days, an absence rate of 34 per cent. The boy (10) in the same year had missed 78 out of 181 days, an absence rate of 43 per cent.
The court had heard that girl had an absence rate of 36 per cent on dates between April 7 and and June 30 last and the boy had an absence rate of 19 per cent for the same dates.
Reading the report, Judge McNamara noted that the woman had missed an appointment with the probation service.
Mr Hennessy said: “Yes that is not great but the children’s school attendance is infinitely better”.
Judge McNamara adjourned the case to a date in December for a further progress report.
