A YOUNG woman with links to Avonmore in Tallaght is hoping to be crowned the Perth Rose at a selection ball in the Australian city this Saturday, and to ultimately compete as the Perth Rose in this year’s Rose of Tralee Festival.
Nadine Oman (20) was born in the Coombe Hospital to Irish parents, with her mother Andrea hailing from Avonmore in Tallaght, and grew up in North Dublin before moving to Perth with her family nine years ago.

Nadine is a full-time business student, and she also works part-time as a supervisor in a fast food restaurant in Perth, and she decided to put her name forward for the Perth Rose competition after she became familiar with the Rose of Tralee competition and saw its positive influence.
“I did my research on what the Rose of Tralee was and the history of the competition,” Nadine told The Echo.
“I love the fact that it is bringing people that have Irish heritage, or are Irish living overseas, from all around the world together to celebrate who we all are as individuals and as a community.
“I have heard from the previous Perth Roses that the experience is very uplifting and rewarding.”
Eight women are competing to be crowned this year’s Perth Rose, and Nadine explained that all of them have forged strong bonds as a result of being whittled down to the final of the competition.
Represent the city
“The other seven roses are the most beautiful individuals – inside and out – that I have ever met.
“They are extremely passionate about what they do, and I couldn’t be prouder. We are all amazing friends and have created a great bond that will last forever.”
Nadine added that she hopes to be this year’s Perth Rose so she can represent the city “in the best way possible” at the Rose of Tralee Festival this summer, and so she can share the positives and negatives of her experience of living in both Ireland and Australia.
