New €3.5m medical scanning facility in Tallaght will see 10,000 patients a year

CONSTRUCTION work has started on a new €3.5 million medical scanning facility in Tallaght Cross East, which, creating 10 jobs, will cater for around 10,000 patients a year.

Private diagnostics company Affidea, which is one of Ireland’s leading independent providers of diagnostic imaging services including MRI, Ultrasound and X-ray, has announced plans to open a new medical scanning facility in Tallaght this May.

Construction work has already commenced on the state-of-the-art centre which will open in Tallaght Cross East – beside the Glashaus Hotel and directly facing the County Library, Tallaght.

Affidea’s estimation that 10,000 patients will annually attend its new clinic has the potential to increase footfall into the general Tallaght Cross area, which is starting to undergo rejuvenation after losing many of its businesses during the recession.

According to the company, Affidea Tallaght will be equipped with state-of-the-art technology including a high-specification MRI scanner – which provides improved patients experience, especially for those with claustrophobia or those who find it difficult to tolerate the noise of the older scanners.

Tom Finn, CEO of Affidea, said: “Affidea currently caters to Dublin patients, with centres in Santry, Dundrum and Dublin city. However, the Tallaght centre will ensure local patients have greater accessibility to medical scans, quickly, professionally and to the highest of standards.

“The new centre will ensure patients can receive the timely attention they need in a primary care environment, rather than hospital-based setting.”

The company confirmed that it is investing €3.5m towards the opening of its Tallaght centre, as part of an overall €15m investment in the Irish healthcare sector.
