New €50,000 pool pod is launched at leisure centre
CLONDALKIN Leisure Centre launched their new Pool Pod, that will give pool users with limited mobility “more confidence” when using the pool, last Thursday, January 19, reports Cliodhna Brooks.
Joined by centre user Sean Reid and centre staff, Mayor Emma Murphy, recently officially launched the leisure centre’s, €50,936, new Pool Pod.
Mayor Murphy said: “I was delighted to open officially the Pool Pod in Clondalkin Leisure Centre. It is a fantastic amenity for people in the locality who wish to use the swimming pool services who had been previously precluded from doing so.
“The addition of the pool pod will give users with disabilities, limited mobility, and older users more confidence in using our swimming and leisure facilities.”
Replacing traditional pool hoists, the Pool Pod is designed to help pool users with limited or impaired mobility to get in/out of the pool with ease.
It offers dignified and independent access to the pool and will increase the pool’s attractiveness to all and thereby improve the health and wellbeing of our community.
The Pool Pod was funded by Sport Ireland Dormant Account Funding, Clondalkin Leisure Centre via SDCC Community Enhancement Fund and Active Cities, and is a welcome addition to Clondalkin Leisure Centre.
