New guide to help more than 2,000 social and care workers

AFTER their visit to Swan, Minister Katherine Zappone and Minister of State Catherine Byrne headed to the Plaza Hotel to launch a new training guide for social and care workers.
Tusla and the HSE have created the new guide to help more than 2,000 social and care workers identify children who may be impacted on by a parent’s misuse of drugs or alcohol.

Speaking at the Tallaght launch of the new training guide, called Hidden Harm, Minister Zappone said: “Care and social workers are in the front-line in supporting and protecting our children in local communities.
“It is important that they have access to proper training.
“This first ever collaboration between Tusla and the HSE is to be welcomed.
“It will not only ensure our committed care and social workers have access to top class resources, it will also keep children from danger.”
Hidden Harm has been firmly fixed on the agenda of local drug projects for a number of years, with projects such as Swan Family Support introducing targeted programmes to help support children.
