New Lucan secondary school now enrolling

A NEW SECONDARY school, Griffeen Community College, due to open in Lucan in September is currently accepting enrolments – for first years only – for the 2017/2018 academic year.

She told The Echo: “I am very excited we have arrived at the point where Griffeen Community College can open its doors to our first cohort of students this September.

“The school’s vision is to provide quality education, putting the learner at the heart of everything we do.

“We are committed to providing the best educational experience and developmental opportunities for our students, and we will encourage the development of 21st century learning skills by offering integrated, technology-enhanced learning environments.”

Griffeen Community College will operate under the patronage of Dublin and Dún Laoghaire Education and Training Board (DDLETB), together with a partner organisation, Scoil Sinéad Ltd.

Initially, Griffeen Community College will be located temporarily in Kishoge Community College on the Ninth Lock Road in Lucan. The new school will move to a purpose-built, brand-new complex within the next two years.

Paddy Lavelle, Chief Executive of DDLETB, said: “This is a very positive development for Lucan – an area that has been designated by the Department of Education and Skills as a priority area for modern, new second-level schools.”
