New Primary Care Health Centre opens

THE new HSE Kilnamanagh and Tymon Primary Care Centre was officially opened by Minister Catherine Byrne TD.
As part of the opening, the HSE Community Healthcare Dublin South, Kildare & West Wicklow’s Healthy Ireland Implementation Plan was also launched at the Greenhills Road facility.

Minister Byrne said: “I am delighted to launch the Healthy Ireland Implementation Plan 2018-2022 for Dublin South, Kildare & West Wicklow (CHO7) as we formally open the new Kilnamanagh-Tymon Primary Care Centre.
“The primary care setting is key to the success of Healthy Ireland as it provides patients with high-quality care in their local community.
“Through its 15 key actions, this Healthy Ireland Implementation Plan aims to reduce chronic disease in our communities and to improve staff health and wellbeing.
“It also highlights the importance of Making Every Contact Count, ensuring that through their consultations with GPs, nurses and other healthcare staff, patients are supported and empowered to make healthier choices and improve their quality of life.”
There are 120 staff based in the HSE Kilnamanagh & Tymon Primary Care Centre.
The building was built in 2008 as an office development but due to recession remained unoccupied for eight years.
Planning permission was granted for a Primary Care Centre and works commenced in March 2017
The Primary Care Centre became operational in May 2018 – the centre sees approximately 400 clients per day.
At present there is one GP practice based in the PCC – Birchview Surgery
HSE Head of Primary Care, Mary O’Kelly welcomed everyone to the event and acknowledged that: “HSE Primary Care Centres have a key role to play in delivering health care, closer to people’s homes in their local communities.
“Primary Care will be implementing the actions listed in the Healthy Ireland Implementation plan to assist our staff and our service users to become more proactive about their health and wellbeing.”
Members of the HSE Staff Choir sang at this event to the delight of all present.
There were a number of information stands which provided details of different services available in the Tallaght area from both the HSE and HSE funded agencies.
The Kilnamanagh & Tymon Primary Care provides a large number of services to the local community including: Public Health Nursing; Occupational Therapy; Physiotherapy; Speech and Language Therapy; Home Care Packages; Southside Intellectual Disability Services; Addiction Services; Alcohol Services; Youth Drug and Alcohol Service (YoDA) and National Counselling Service; The Seefin Centre Mental Health Intellectual Disability Services Warmth & Wellbeing Department.
