Normal visiting hours return to Tallaght Hospital

NORMAL visiting hours have been reintroduced at Tallaght Hospital, after restrictions were put in place to manage a number of outbreaks over the winter season.

While regular visiting hours have returned, Tallaght Hospital has asked visitors to respect the hospital’s guidelines.

These include only two visitors per patient at any one time and the observation of the hand hygiene signs.

Visitors are asked to clean their hands when they enter the hospital, when they arrive on the ward and upon leaving the ward and the hospital, alongside using visitor toilets rather than patient toilets to reduce the risk of cross infection.

Daily visiting hours in the adult hospital are now 2pm to 4pm and 6.30pm to 8.30pm, with visiting hours for the Mental Health Unit 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm.

According to the hospital, visitors to the Intensive and Coronary Care Units are, as always restricted, and at the discretion of the nurses in charge.

Visiting is not permitted during mealtimes, which is, according to the hospital, an “essential requirement for good nutrition and recovery”.

Dr Catherine Wall, Lead Clinical Director at Tallaght Hospital, said: “Visitors are a welcome and important part of a patient’s day.

“They can bring a lot of happiness and help the recovery process. With the reintroduction of normal visiting hours, we aim to maximise the welfare of our patients and their families to ensure the best care experience possible.

“We ask all visitors to be aware of visiting times and to respect these, so that patients are also given the important time to rest and enable hospital staff to deliver care uninterrupted.”
