Number of schools are expected to remain closed on Monday due to weather

A NUMBER of schools in South County Dublin are expected to remain closed on Monday due to the poor weather conditions.

Schools have closed since last Wednesday and with South Dublin County Council and local residents working tirelessly to clear snow from estates and roads today, a number of schools have decided to remain closed for safety reasons.

Met Eireann has issued an orange status weather warning until noon on Monday with widespread lying snow and ice continuing to lead to hazardous conditions.

The Department of Education and Skills said: "Where possible schools, colleges of further education and third level institutions will re-open on Monday.

“However, decisions will be made by schools, colleges of further education and third level institutions on an individual basis depending on the circumstances and conditions in their area.

“As always, schools must ensure the safety of those in their care and give due consideration to this when making a decision to re-open”.

The following schools The Echo understands will be closed on Monday:

Tallaght Schools: St Kevin’s Boys and Girls, Kilnamanagh, Tallaght Community School, Old Bawn Community School, Scoil Iosa, Scoil Aonghusa Junior and Senior, Scoil Maelruain, Firhouse Community College, St Kilian’s Kingswood (in-house training), St Anne’s Fettercairn, Knockmore junior and senior school, Scoil Chriost Belgard, Scoil Santain, Scoil Chaitlin Maude, St Dominic’s Mountain View, St Mark’s JNS and St Mark’s SNS Springfield, Greenhills College Further Education, St Aidan’s CS Brookfield, Holy Family Community College Rathcoole, Citywest Educate Together

Clondalkin Schools: St Ronan’s Deansrath, St Mary’s Rowlagh, Collinstown Community College, St Peter de Apostle, St Bernadette Senior School, St Kevin’s Community College, Deansrath Community College, Nano Nagle

Lucan/Palmerstown Schools: St Lorcan’s BNS, St Brigid’s GNS, Pobalscoil, Colaiste Phadraig, Kishoge Community College.

The Echo does understand that a number of schools in Clondalkin, Lucan and Ballyfermot will be open on Monday.

This list was updated at 6.30pm on Sunday and parents are asked to keep in touch with local schools.
