Numbers signing on the live register drop 47 in county during the month

THERE was a drop of 47 in the numbers signing on the live register in December 2017 across the four social welfare offices in the county. The drop was in keeping with the national trend, reports Brendan Grehan.

On a national basis, the Live Register total recorded a monthly decrease of 2,900 (-1.2 per cent) in December 2017, reducing the seasonally adjusted total to 241,300.

The number of persons on the Live Register in December 2017 is also the lowest number recorded in the seasonally adjusted series since August 2008.

In unadjusted terms there were 236,268 persons signing on the Live Register in December 2017. This represents an annual decrease of 40,234 (-14.6 per cent).

In Tallaght, the total signing on fell from 6,536 in November to 6,519 in December, a drop of 17. Among the under 25s there was a drop of eight, with 883 signing on in November and 875 signing on in December.

In Nutgrove, the total signing fell from  2,556 in November to 2,554 in December, a drop of just two.

Among the under 25s, there was an increase of two with 120 signing on in November and 122 signing on in December.

In Ballyfermot, the total signing on fell by 22  with 2,107 signing on in November  and 2,085 signing on in December.

The figures for the under 25s fell by seven  with 313 signing on in November and 306 in December.

In Clondalkin, the total signing on rose by one from 4,429 in November to 4,430 in December. Among the under 25s there was a drop of 20 with 529 signing on in November and 509 signing on in December.
