Oblate Dynamos qualify for Under 16 All-Ireland C’ships
OBLATE Dynamos Under 16 Girls basketball team have qualified for the All-Ireland Championships in Galway.
Needing to win their last game to ensure further progress, they faced a daunting task in unhinging rivals Meteors – a team who had already beaten them twice this season.
Thus the squad was well aware they had to up their game if they were going to be heading west in April.
But the girls rose to the challenge, and gave a most impressive display as they sealed a 33-43 win.
The match was tense throughout with only one point separating the two sides by the close of the first quarter.
But Dynamos took off in the second and finished the half leading by a margin of 10 points, Lauren Malone and Ciara White combining to score an impressive 35 points between them.
The former, in particular, produced some great play, hitting a number of three-point scores, that proved to be crucial in putting some daylight between the two teams.
Coach Terry Staunton told The Echo “The next stop for the team is the All Ireland’s in Galway on April 22nd and 23rd.
“The fixtures have not been released yet, but we are looking forward to the event” he added.
