Olympics 24: Rhasidat plays her part in an incredible result for our ladies 4x400m relay team
The Paris Olympics will go down in history as a watershed moment in Irish athletics.
As a nation we have competed at the highest level and shown we are there with the best.
Our final event in Paris, the ladies 4×400 relay team, gave us a moment of sheer excitement and elation and great pride.
Imagine, getting to the Olympics is quite an achievement but coming 4th in the world is incredible.
Sophie Becker ran the first leg passing the baton in 6th place to Rhasidat.
She ran her third fastest time ever over the distance and passed the baton in 2nd place to Sarah Healy.
Sarah held her position well and she passed the baton in third . Sharlene Mawdsley raced the final leg in 3rd place but she was caught close to the line.
What a race. We can only stand in awe of what this team has achieved and to the sheer joy they have given us.
Imagine, everyone in Ireland especially in Tallaght was on their feet shouting at the television.
Gold went to race favourites USA, silver going to the Netherlands with Great Britain taking bronze just 0.18 ahead of Ireland.
The homecoming promises to be a great celebration.
