On This Day in 1962: What does the future hold For Chapelizod?

On this day in 1962 the RTE cameras travelled to the little village of Chapelizod to hear about the problems being caused by underdevelopment, a lack of housing and bad roads.

In the piece recorded for Newsview, Chapelizod Residents Association’s Séamus Ó Murchú notes how the widening of the bridge will impact on residents in the local area, while he also mentions the steep hill having to be climbed by young and old as they make their way to the Ballyfermot clinic.

Many will recognise the bridge, and the buildings to its right, while others may even spot a face they recognise as locals watch on with excitement at the sight of TV cameras.

The busy little village looks vibrant with traffic and people going about their daily business, while children play in the streets.

This report was broadcast on August 21, 1962.
