OT leaders lose almost 40 stone

Round Tower GAA club wrapped up their Operation Transformation (OT) challenge, celebrating the end of the almost two-month challenge which saw participants lose almost 40 stone combined, reports Aura McMenamin.

The seven-week challenge saw five local leaders and several local participants lose a combined 38 and a half stone following expert-guided changes in fitness and diet.

The leaders revelled in their weightloss success at the event in the clubhouse where the they received their final weigh-in.

This year’s leaders were local councillor Francis Timmons (46), Tricia Kelleher (39), care assistant Amy Mannix (32), Jessica O’Malley (45) and plasterer Enda Cosgrove (39).

Each leader was assigned a personal trainer, who worked with them to develop a food plan.

Paul Stewart from Pure Fitness took on Enda and Tricia, Andrea Bassett from Waist A-Weight worked with Jessica and Francis and Sabrina Conlon, or ‘Coach Conlon’ was paired up with Amy.

The event saw up to 130 people sign up in the first few weeks. For seven weeks, OT participants walked 5km on Mondays and Wednesdays and could take part in a weekly run in Corkagh Park on Saturdays.

On Friday, it was announced that Marie Crotty was the biggest loser out of all the participants with a loss of 1 stone 8 pounds.

Club volunteer Cathal O’Donoghue said that they received positive feedback from participants.
