Our World Irish Aid Award presented to Scoil Treasa

TALLAGHT school Scoil Treasa has been awarded the Activity Award at the Farmleigh House Ceremony as part of the Our World Irish Aid Awards, reports Lauren Castleman.

For the past 17 years, the Our World Irish Aid Awards seeks to give an opportunity for young people in Ireland to learn about issues affecting our planet and its inhabitants.

The awards provide a platform for primary students to engage with these global issues through a series of curriculum-linked teaching and learning materials, activities, and online magazines.

Sixth class pupils from Scoil Treasa, located on Ballycullen Avenue in Tallaght, received the Activity Award in recognition of their colourful yet informative work on the Irish Aid focus countries.

Their project, which featured 3D globes, served to emphasise the global impact of Irish Aid’s work.

Minister for Overseas Development and Diaspora Colm Brophy TD announced the prize on June 15 at a ceremony held at Farmleigh House. Fifteen schools around the country sent pupils and teachers to attend the ceremony.

On the success of Scoil Treasa, Minister Brophy stated: “Striving for a more equal, fair and just world is at the very heart of the United Nation’s Global Goals and Irish Aid’s work… I am so encouraged by the commitment of teachers and the enthusiasm of pupils.

“Their willingness to challenge us all to do better for the benefit for everyone is commendable.”

The winning submission from Scoil Treasa will be featured alongside the other 13 finalists’ projects in a special print edition of the Our World Irish Aid Awards Global Goal Getters magazine, to be distributed nationwide for all to learn about.
