Outdoor family friendly cinema takes place in St Cuthbert’s Park

A FREE outdoor cinema screening of the animated musical comedy film Trolls World Tour (2020) takes place on Friday, May 19, at St Cuthbert’s Park, Clondalkin, at 7pm.

The family friendly event is organised by Friends of St Cuthbert’s Park.

The group, made up of local residents and volunteers, received some funding from South Dublin County Council for the flick on an 18 sq metre screen, but there will be donation buckets if anyone can spare a few bob, as money has to be paid upfront for community initiatives.

Back in 2019, over 800 people turned out to enjoy an outdoor comedy flick Hocus Pocus (1993) at the Bawnogue park on a Friday night.

This is a strictly no alcohol event but residents can bring their own food and a coffee dock will be available, according to Lisa Kinsella-Colman, a member of Friends of St Cuthbert’s.

“We’d ask people to bring along their own blankets instead of chairs to enjoy the movie, because it will be on the football pitch that Clondalkin Celtic play on,” said Lisa.

“At previous events we had people bringing their pizza, or running up to the chipper. We will have bags but we ask people to clean up and take their rubbish home with them.”

Volunteers involved with Friends of St Cuthbert’s set up the group six years ago as part of wider efforts to reclaim to park for the community.

Prior to this, St Cuthbert’s Park suffered from serious issues such as joyriding, drug dealing and dumping, but improvements have been substantial in recent years.

“Things are much better now,” acknowledged Lisa.

“We have been blessed with the weather for outdoor events so far. Covid stopped it for a while but it is great to be back doing it. Once we take out insurance we have cover for three events throughout the year, and this is the first one.

“Although the council do support us, we will have donation buckets for people that can give a little, even a euro, and we also need volunteers.”

After the movie, there will be an after show with an amazing fire display by Tornaido.

Further details have been posted about the event on local Facebook accounts.
