TEENAGERS from Tallaght and Rathfarnham helped to raise over €1000 on Saturday, March 10, for youth service Foroige with a 5k run in Tymon Park, reports Aura McMenamin.

The Foroige youth service, which has several clubs in South Dublin County, launched the Six Week Fitness Challenge at the end of January, which 26 youths from Tallaght and Whitechurch Foroige clubs took part in.

For six weeks, teens began circuit training and long-distance running to get them motivated for the Fun Run.

The Challenge culminated in a 5k and 1k Family Fun Run, where over 100 people took part and helped raise €1,145.

Ciara McGarry Quinn is a youth justice worker at Foroige. She told The Echo: “We raised €1,145 on the day through registrations, this amount doesn’t include any fundraising individual clubs and projects did through sponsorship cards.”

The proceeds raised from the Foroige 5k and Family Fun Run will go directly back into local youth groups and projects.

Ms McGarry Quinn said: “Foroige South Dublin would like to thank all who came out and supported the event. We’d like to thank our sponsors, SQS Ireland, InTallaght Magazine, Dave Mooney Painter & Decorator, Mc Quillan Carpentry LTD and Choice Training.”
