Pair of two-storey data centres proposed for Profile Park
PLANS for the development of a pair of two-storey data centres in Profile Park, Clondalkin, have been lodged with South Dublin County Council.
The applicant, Digital Netherlands VIII B. V., applied for planning permission for the construction of two data centres at “Ireland’s Data Centre Cluster” – as Profile Park is coined on its website.
They are seeking 10-year permission for the removal of an unused water treatment facility on the site and erection of two data centre buildings called ‘DUB15′ and ‘DUB16’.
The first data centre (DUB15) is located to the southwest of the site and will comprise of data storage use, office use, associated electrical and mechanical plant rooms, load bays, maintenance and storage space across 16,865sq.m.
The second data centre (DUB16), located to the southeast, includes the same facilities and usage as its the other data centre building.
Both of the data centres planned will reach up to a height of 20m.
A gas powered energy generation compound to provide electricity to the proposed development is also part of the proposal.
Emergency generators, emission flues and plant are proposed in compounds next to each of the data centre buildings.
Proposals include the widening and rerouting of an existing watercourse constructed following an earlier planning permission to the eastern and southern boundary of the site.
71 car parking spaces and 26 bicycle spaces to be accessed via new internal access roads within the site are proposed.
A Natura Impact Statement is to be submitted to the local planning authority for consideration with the application.
On the Profile Park website, it details how 60 acres of the 100-acre private business park was sold to Google and Digital Realty Trust – leaving the remaining “shovel-ready” 40-acres immediately available.
Some of those remaining acres have been picked up over the past decade and this application from Digital Netherlands VII B. V. is just the latest hoping to contribute to “Ireland’s Data Centre Cluster”.
The applicant, Digital Netherlands VII B. V., has a current partial address in College Business & Technology Park, Blanchardstown, and has been operating since 2007.
The closing date for third party submissions in relation to this development is September 7, with the council expected to make a decision by September 28, 2021.
