By Maurice Garvey
THERE was a great turnout of support for a fundraiser for Moyle Park College over the weekend of March 9.
The Parents Council of Moyle Park, spent five hard months organising a major fundraising event, with all the proceeds going towards a replacement of the school’s sport's hall.

The ‘20 K Drop’ took place on Friday, March 9, at the Green Isle Hotel, and proved to be hugely successful, raising €25,000.
Moyle Park College Principal Niamh Cahalane, praised the “fantastic work” by the Parents Council, and support from the local business community.
“The sports hall was built in the 1980s, a big project ahead of it’s time,” she said.
Driving force
“It is concrete with a laminate cover, so we want to install a timber structure. The Parents Council are the driving force behind the fundraiser.”
The Parents Council secured nine main sponsors on the night, including School and Office World, Ballymount Fireplaces, Specsavers Clondalkin, AutoGlass Motors, Clondalkin Dental, Timmons Auto Repairs, Eugene Smart Solicitors, Brian McElroy’s, and the Ciaran Carr Foundation.
“It was a full house at the 20K Drop, the two main organisers were Audrey Burke and Michelle Forrester,” said Ms Cahalane.
“The Parents Council spent five months, getting sponsorship from local businesses and the community. A lot of businesses provided donations and prizes for raffles. A number of people on the night won cash prizes. The night raised €25,000 which is fantastic. Our target is €40,000 so we have a bit to go.”
