Passenger pleads guilty to refusing to pay taxi-fare
A PASSENGER who was arrested after refusing to pay a taxi-fare has been given an opportunity to pay the fare by Blanchardstown District Court.
Finbarr Delaney, aged 44, with an address at St Edmonds Park, Lucan, pleaded guilty to refusing to pay a taxi-fare of €17.40 at Fonthill Road, Clondalkin, on May 1, 2019.

Sergeant Geraldine McManigan told the court that at 11.30pm on the above date, the gardai were waved down by a taxi-driver who had a passenger who was refusing to pay his fare.
Sgt McManigan said Delaney was abusive to the taxi-driver and was given an opportunity by the gardai to pay the fare but refused to do so and was arrested.
Delaney’s solicitor, Luke Staines, said the situation “had got out of hand” on the night in question.
He said Delaney had brought a sum of money to court.
Judge McHugh asked Mr Staines what the incident had been about.
Mr Staines said his client had “an issue with another passenger who was in the back of the taxi.”
Judge McHugh said he would strike out the case if Delaney paid €100 to the Blanchardstown Hospice and the taxi-fare to the driver.
The case was later struck out when the monies were handed into court.
