Paul Murphy: “The name Solidarity is a truer reflection of the kind of politics we represent”

THE Anti-Austerity Alliance has changed its name to Solidarity, which local TD Paul Murphy believes is a “truer reflection” of the kind of politics the party represents.
At a press conference in Buswell’s Hotel last Friday, March 10, the three Anti-Austerity Alliance TDs Ruth Coppinger, Mick Barry and Dublin South West deputy Paul Murphy announced that the party is changing its name to Solidarity.
According to the three TDs, the rebranding will have no effect on the left-wing Dail grouping currently constituted as AAA-PBP other than it will now be called, Solidarity – People Before Profit.
Speaking about the name change local TD, Paul Murphy said: “The name Solidarity is a truer reflection of the kind of politics we represent.
“We are active on a variety of issues- social and economic- from water charges and housing and local issues to organising in colleges, campaigning with the pro-choice movement and supporting and organising in the workplaces and Trade Unions.
“As more people are looking for a real left alternative and for a just and fairer society we are saying clearly that we stand with you, that your fight is our fight and that your demands are legitimate.”
