Peamount back on the brink of cup glory

PEAMOUNT United Ladies face a big two weeks ahead, starting tomorrow with a trip to Ferrycarrig Park to face Wexford Youths in the Continental Tyres Women's National League Cup Final at 4pm.
It is the first of four big games on the road for the Newcastle side before the close of the month as they return south on September 22 to again face off against the reigning Women’s National League champions in a must-win match for them if they are to preserve any aspirations of this year’s crown.

That will be followed by a trip to Galway Women’s FC three days later before they then do battle with Shelbourne Ladies in the semi finals of the FAI Women's Senior Cup, hoping to set up a title match against either Wexford or UCD Waves.
Yet James O’Callaghan’s side will be focusing fully on tomorrow’s big challenge against Wexford in the National League Cup decider in their attempt to banish the painful memories of last season’s penalty shootout loss to Shelbourne in this very fixture.
They will be heading into this match without the services of Heather Payne, who recently joined Women’s Super League outfit Bristol City, as well as defender Claire Walsh and goalkeeper Niamh Reid-Burke who are both struggling with injury, while Dearbhaile Beirne is cup tied.
Still O’Callaghan believes his side has every chance of lifting the prize tomorrow saying: “It’s going to be tough, playing the reigning champions in Wexford, but we had a very good training session last night and the girls are quietly confident.
“We have a good squad there. We’ve had one or two disappointing results, but the performances have been good and we’ve been creating chances. We just haven’t been that clinical in the final third and, if we can get that right, we could do really well.
“Peamount haven’t won a title in a few years now, so it’s just about getting over that hurdle. It would be great for the team if we could do it tomorrow,” he told The Echo.
