Peamount land O’Neill’s Under 16 Cup
PEAMOUNT United landed the O’Neill’s Under 16 Cup after they beat St Joseph’s 3-1 in Monday night’s final in Greenogue.
Deadlocked at the halftime break, the match saw the homeside take off in the second half with goals from Emily Sharma and Ali Kaye.
Peamount United’s Under 16s raised the O’Neill’s Cup following their 3-1 victory over St Joseph’s in Monday night’s decider in Greenogue
It was from the penalty spot that Peamount took the lead after 15 minutes, Emma Phillips winning them the spotkick after she was pulled down in the box and captain Caragh Holland stepping up to the despatch her strike to the top right.
St Joseph’s stepped up a gear after falling behind and drew level ten minutes later, but that was as close as they would come to getting their hands on the prize.
The introduction of Ireland international Orlagh Fitz-patrick provided Peamount with more attacking impetus on the left wing while the Peamount defence, that featured the impressive right full Caitlin Kennedy, proved totally uncompromising from here on in.
The Newcastle side got back on top after the recess and edged back in front with 10 minutes to go when Fitzpatrick’s delivery found Emily Sharma in the box and she fired home.
And the Peas’ made certain of the victory when centre forward Ali Kaye lifted the ball over the reach of the St Joseph’s netminder with just a minute remaining.
