Pea’s turn attention to the league
PEAMOUNT United’s UEFA Women’s Champions League qualifying journey came to an end last Saturday as they fell to a 2-1 loss to Osijek.
The Irish champions took the lead through Dearbhaile Beirne in the early moments of the game, but two second half strikes within four minutes of each other from the Croatian side was enough to secure the victory for the hosts.
Having won the Irish Women’s Premier Division last season, the Peas entered the Champions path at the first qualifying round stage, a four-team mini tournament held in Osijek, Croatia last week.
Peamount won their opening group game 2-1 against Belarusian side Dinamo Minsk on Wednesday after an extra time winner from Kerri Letmon.
Had United won on Saturday they would have progressed to the Women’s Champions League second qualifying round and would have been just one two-legged tie away from the UEFA Champions League proper, a state no Irish club has ever participated on.
The Dublin side will turn their attentions to domestic matters now with just five games left in the Women’s Premier Division Season.
They sit in fifth position, 15 points off Athlone in top spot having played a game more.
James O’Callaghan’s side welcome seventh place Bohemians to Greenogue this Saturday at five o’clock.
